COVID-19 RESPONSE
Happenings in the Community
FREE MEAL AND DELIVERY SERVICE
During the pandemic we have been providing free meals and care packages to residents who are vulnerable and at risk amidst the crisis. In the 24 months since we began our emergency food operation in response to the crisis we have provided over 187,000 free meals and 41,650 bags of groceries to residents in need. We have also saved 260 tonnes of food waste from the landfill – by turning surplus food donated via charity partners and local businesses into delicious and nutritious free meals for local residents.
WALKING BUDDY
SCHEME
We also offer a walking buddy program aimed at assisting people with low support needs to overcome their anxiety and stay active - helping to aid independence.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROJECT
As well as our free meal service and walking buddy project we recently launched a health and wellness project. The project aims to deliver free health and wellness resources which our clients and volunteers can access online and offline for free via printed materials and through our website and social media platforms. Prior to the pandemic we ran a community kitchen - providing free meals, entertainment and activities to those on low incomes and at risk of loneliness, poverty and isolation.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT
Our community led initiative which relies on the support of local people and businesses - needs your help to continue with our vital work. We need volunteers to help deliver our meals, residents with their fabulous skills and business with their knowledge and resources to help source food, donations and equipment.
